BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT



CULT supports the participation of youth with insertion problems in the democratic life of their regions, giving them the opportunity to publicize the initiative "European Capital of Culture”, designing a cultural work plan for their own cities based on the requirements of the call, and performing a joint proposal between the participating countries, to be sent to the Council of Ministers of the European Union.

To get this, for 9 months, the partners will facilitate the dialogue between youth of the 6 participating countries, through networking, enabling them to acquire experience in concepts of representative democracy, in the terms of the call, and in European cultural policies, through seminars and local workshops. The project will continue with an open discussion and approval of a program of cultural activities that young people will agree, through a simulation based on the work of the European Parliament, according to the cultural needs that they want today for Europe. Finally, it will be created a website that offers the possibility to facilitate discussion among young people, about the current state of EU cultural policy.

The project promotes the integration of youth by developing their knowledge about EU activities, while promoting their commitment with citizenship and community in which they live. Also increases their knowledge of the call for "European Capital of Culture " and its contribution to bring Europe's regions close. It also promotes participatory democracy among young people, the exchange of ideas between countries and cultural dialogue on proposals of interest for youth.








OBJECTIVES





  • Increase awareness of young people on the call for "European Cultural Capital" and its contribution to bringing Europe's regions.
  • Increase the level of youth participation in policies and decisions of local authorities in the EU.
  • To promote participatory democracy among young people, the exchange of ideas between countries and dialogue on cultural proposals of interest to youth.
  • Involve young people in the process of political decision-making, through a simulation of a European Parliament session, which will show the mechanisms of representative democracy.
  • Create a joint cultural program that shows the interests and needs of European youth, as well as several business plans for each participating city, on the requirements of the “European Capital of Culture”.
  • To encourage intercultural dialogue among young people in several European Union countries



MAIN ACTIVITIES
  



  1. Local workshops and seminars for youth, on the mechanisms of representative democracy, including the operation of the EU and European policies as well as information on the European Capital of Culture, through working groups which will discuss and map out lines of action to design cultural plans for their city, as required by this call.
  2. Simulation of the European Parliament, with 4 young participants of the project plus a tutor for each, coming together to simulate the parliamentary process for 5 days. They must submit individual work plans for each participating city, and agree on a joint program of cultural activities, according to the current cultural needs of Europe, by young people.
  3. Create a web page showing the project, and offering the possibility to interact and debate among young people in Europe, with different traditions, the current state of EU cultural policy.
